Effective Coaching is just Good Chemistry

Ever leave a conversation feeling taller? Like your brain took a vitamin it didn’t know it needed? That’s not an accident. That’s chemistry.

Good coaching isn’t about clever frameworks or perfect questions.
It’s about creating a micro-lab for human potential where someone walks in foggy and walks out remembering they’re capable, brave, and maybe even a little brilliant.

When I’m coaching, my real job isn’t to fix or advise; it’s to gift chemicals.
To help someone feel energized again (that’s the drive molecule Dopamine at work).
To help them feel competent and strong (confidence Testosterone chemistry).
And to help them feel seen, safe, and connected (the Serotonin belonging blend).

When that balance hits, it’s not therapy. It’s transformation. And it’s addictive in the best way.
Because when people feel those three things; energy, capability, and belonging… they do better work, build stronger networks, and start showing up differently.
They start learning again, not out of pressure, but curiosity.
They take action not because they’re told to, but because they want to.

That’s the whole ecosystem, right there:

SKILL in how you communicate with them.
NETOWORK in how you connect to them.
ACTIVITY in what you both practice between sessions.
KNOWLEDGE in what you come to understand, about them and yourself.

Every conversation is a tiny experiment in all four.
And the results are usually beautiful chaos.
Sometimes there’s laughter. Sometimes there are tears.
Sometimes someone says, “Wow, I didn’t realize I needed to hear that.”
(That’s when I know the chemistry’s working.)

Here’s the secret (and yes, you have heard it before, listen this time):
People rarely remember your advice.
But they never forget how you made them feel.
So, if you’re a leader, a coach, or just a decent human trying to do better; try this experiment:

Give someone a little boost of the good stuff.
Not the coffee kind. The connection kind.

Question: When was the last time someone made you feel capable, energized, and completely themself, all in one conversation? That’s the chemistry we should all be learning to create.
