You know that moment when you see someone like their own post and your brain does the optical equivalent of a record scratch?
Yeah. I can’t unsee it either.
And yet, every time I post something, my cursor drifts.
It hovers.
Over that little blue thumbs-up like it’s the last cookie you baked yourself—warm, familiar, and technically yours, but still… somehow weird to eat in public.
And I whisper to myself: “Don’t do it. He’ll know.”
Because my father-in-law—God rest his deeply held opinions—never liked his own posts.
Said it was “thirsty,” like laughing at your own joke, clapping at your own toast, or giving yourself a standing ovation. (Which, if I’m being honest, sounds kind of awesome. But I digress.)
So I’ve never done it either.
Because his voice lives rent-free in my head and apparently has editorial control over some of my social media behavior.
So no, I won’t like this post.
Even though I like it (or I would not have posted it).
Even though the algorithm probably needs it.
Even though I am deeply tempted.
Because once I’ve seen it… I can’t unsee it.
And now? Neither can you.
What about you? Are you a self-liker? Or do you hear the Judgment Choir in your head too?
