See, control and activation are not the same thing. Not even in the same family. Control is a strategy—one we adopt when things feel slippery. When the world starts shifting under our feet, we reach for control like it’s the handrail that’ll keep us from sliding.

But if control is the handrail, activation is the actual path. The one you walk with your full weight, even if it’s covered in ice. Even if your GPS says “recalculating.”

Control says: tighten.
Activation says: respond.

Let’s be honest—control gets all the praise. It looks sharp on a résumé. It’s got spreadsheets and color-coded calendars and end-of-year reflection decks. But for all its polish, it often feels like holding your breath for too long.

Activation, on the other hand, is messy. It’s in the body. It’s in that sudden flush of presence when a moment grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. It’s not something you schedule. It’s something you notice.

And that noticing? That’s where the SNAK framework comes in.

Skills. Network. Activities. Knowledge.
Four powerful activators, let’s break it down.

Sometimes you get activated mid-task—while knee-deep in a Skill your passionate about. Maybe it’s a design project, a spreadsheet formula, a podcast script, or a systems diagram. Suddenly, your brain sparks, your pulse ticks up, and time folds in on itself. That’s dopamine, my friend. Your brain’s reward system reminding you that you’re still in there.

Networks can be activating, too. Sometimes it’s a group. Sometimes a single voice. A friend whose one-liner rewires your whole week. A colleague who speaks possibility into your stuck place. These aren’t just “connections”—they’re catalysts.

And of course, Activities. The most obvious activators. But here’s the catch: they don’t have to be productive. They have to be authentic. Movement. Making. Expression. Anything that takes your mind out of its swirl and puts you back in your own skin. A walk. A playlist. A long-overdue ugly cry. That, too, is activation.

Then there’s Knowledge. Not the “pass a quiz” kind (although that is absolutely valid). But I’m talking about self-knowledge. The slow, sacred process of realizing what’s no longer yours to carry. The quiet shift when you know something deep in your gut—even if you’re not quite ready to say it out loud. That’s re-alignment.

Now, zoom out.

We are all living through a global period of disruption. Of sorting and reevaluation. Whatever your vantage point… political, cultural, personal… it’s a season of unearthing.
And that’s destabilizing, but it’s also clarifying.
Because when old definitions fall apart, we finally get the chance to ask better questions:

What matters now?
What still fits?
What activates me—not just intellectually, but viscerally?

You don’t have to overhaul your life. You just have to start noticing.
What lights you up, even briefly? What cracks open your chest in that soft, electric way? Follow that.

If you’re feeling off-balance, good, that means you’re not sleepwalking anymore.
Change doesn’t always feel like progress. Sometimes it feels like confusion, fatigue, grief. But that discomfort? That’s the friction of old selves rubbing up against something truer.

So instead of chasing control, try making contact.
With your body. With your people. With your present moment.

That’s activation.

And that’s enough.
